'Forever Blooms' Puff Quilt

I have a little confession, I have a new obsession! I am infatuated with puff quilts. Ever since I saw some at Quilt Market, Houston I have been in love. Ok, they may be a little bulky and impractical, but look how comfy they look. Like little puffy clouds of quilty goodness.

I made this quilt using 8" squares (they reduce in size quite a lot when you fold and stuff them) and it grew very quickly. I didn't use the method where you make each block individually, that felt too messy and clunky to me. Instead I sewed my squares together, sewing little pleats into each square as I created the quilt face. Once the quilt top was complete, I placed the backing and quilt top together, right sides facing and stitched around three sides of the quilt. I then turned it inside out and sewed columns of three squares at a time from the closed bottom of the quilt. Once completed, I stuffed each of the first row of squares, pushing the wadding to the back of the square, then I carefully stitched the row, closing all of the squares in that row. I repeated this technique until I had finished my column of three squares. I then repeated sewing three more columns and stuffing and sewing each row, until the quilt was finished. This method was really easy once I got into a rhythm and would definitely work this way again.

All I needed to finish off my quilt was a cute little model and thankfully Sid, my Mum's chihuahua agreed to step in to the role. He can confirm that it's very comfortable and would recommend to anyone contemplating making a puff quilt.
