Are you looking for the perfect autumn sewing project? Then look no further. This STUNNING single quilt is designed and made by the amazing Sally Ablett using my latest fabric collection, ‘The Water Gardens’ for Lewis and Irene. Measuring 64" x 64", this quilt fits easily on to a single bed, or if you wanted to make it larger you could choose your favourite border and extend it to whatever size you like.
Sally has cleverly designed this quilt in three different colour ways, so you can choose to make your favourite or all three. This is a fantastic idea for anyone who wants to subtly change their décor depending on their mood or just likes to have a spare for when the weather gets really cold. I can’t wait to see which variation you all choose to make.
The quilt is made up from five fabrics and Sally has used a plain white for the background, but you could also use a texture or possibly a pale grey to create a different look. We opted for the white to create a modern feeling and to showcase the more subtle colours in the collection. The central star creates a lovely focal point with the borders creating interest to draw your eye outward without being too distracting. The thin white sashing strips help to break up the design so it doesn't feel overwhelming or complicated. By keeping the binding white this also links in with the sashing creating a very clean overall feel to the quilt.
One of my favourite things about this quilt is the way the design has such a balanced feel to it. Sally has translated the 'zen' feeling of the fabrics to create a really tranquil quilt. I love how the central star is mirrored in the outer border to create a really cohesive look.
This quilt was quilted by the lovely Joy Harber and I’ve included a couple of close ups of the gorgeous stitching. Joy always chooses the prettiest designs to compliment Sallys quilts and I just LOVE the flowers she chose for this one.
