Winter's Garden by Cassandra Connolly for Lewis and Irene

I had to take a few moments before I started to write this, because I'd lost count of how many fabric collections I have collaborated on with the lovely Lewis and Irene. After some swift mental arithmetic, I am excited to announce my fifteenth fabric collection ‘Winter's Garden,’ for Lewis and Irene will be available in shops from July 2026. Featuring winter plants and botanical's, evergreens and pine cones, and some subtle pearlescent elements, which add a gorgeous shimmer to the designs, this collection is sure to add some sparkle to your stash.

I love toying with the idea that the season's can be personified and carrying on from my previous collection 'Dear Spring' where everyone is awaiting Spring's arrival, I thought it only fitting that Winter have a little spot in the limelight. In my mind Winter has a garden where everything has been placed with intent for the viewer to see, if they just look closely enough...

Winter’s garden, silent and bare,

Holds secrets in the frosty air.

Against the silver, grey and white,

Shining through the low sunlight,

She hides her treasures in plain sight,

Fool’s gold glittering in the light.

Opulent jewels of crimson red and orange rust,

Covered in sparkling fairy dust.

Mistletoe charms as magic weaves,

Through evergreen and frosted leaves.

A silent rustle through the trees,

Frozen limbs deterring mischievous thieves.

A soundless promise that no one shall pass,

As the world turns pearlescent, through frosted glass.

Quiet beauty, almost divine,

Everything placed here by design.

Here subtle hues of green intertwine,

Winter berries peeking through the vines.

And from the peaceful, frozen ground,

New life and blooms will soon be found.

Winter’s garden, serene and fair,

Whispers promises to the frosty air.

I sometimes feel that winter is a little overlooked as a season. If you take a moment to look around, there are so many beautiful, delicate elements that are truly magical in their own right. I tried to capture the essence of how I imagined Winter's garden by focusing on the berries and foliage of the season. Through the use of soft greys, whites and evergreens and

of course adding by pearlescence I tried to encapsulate the feeling of a frosty mid-winter's day.

This collection also features a binding stripe panel, which has so much potential and I really can't wait to see this used in all of your projects. Not only does it have details of the mistletoe, pine cones and frosted berries, but also a tiny repeated pearlescent stripe which is so delightful!

Originally this collection began it's life as a Christmas collection, but soon evolved into more of a classic winter range. My favourite thing about this range is it's versatility. If you want a really pretty, subtle Christmas collection, then this will work beautifully in table runner's and stockings. Equally, if you wanted to create a gorgeous winter quilt to elevate your room in the winter months, then this range is perfect, without it looking like the elves have had a party in your living room- hehe!
