We were looking for a quick and easy children's pattern to show case my 'Meadowside' collection when I came across Simplicity 2377. I love the pretty gathered sleeves and the sweet peasant style and thought this would suit my fabrics 'Meadow Call- Cream' and 'Grassfield Gathering-Light Ecru Pink' well. The quilting weight cotton also means that while it has a lovely drape, it isn't too light weight so could easily be layered to create a more autumnal outfit.

This pattern comes with six variations of the dress, and we decided to opt for version A, sized age 6. It is easy to sew, with no zips or notions. The dress didn't require a vast amount of fabric and there was very little waste. With easy to understand instructions, the dress really didn't take long to put together. Each of the dresses have a tie at the waist to add additional gathering of the fabric and to give the wearer a pretty silhouette. The gathered neck and sleeves again were really simple and could easily be adjusted to fit to wearer.

If you're looking for an easy, pretty dress I would really recommend this one. The sweet gathered sleeves and tied waist give the simple peasant style dress a touch of elegance without distracting from the design. This dress is perfect for a young girl and I know how much my daughter loves wearing this one. The sizing appears true to fit to my six year old daughter, but any adjustments needed especially in length would be really simple to do. If you wanted a slightly fuller skirt this again would be easy to do with additional fabric, or by dressing it up with a petticoat. A beautiful day dress which can be elevated to formal occasion wear such as a christening dress, this pattern is truly versatile.
